Swim Meet Job Descriptions
LANE MANAGER – stand behind the diving blocks of a lane and make sure swimmers are in the correct lane and in the correct order.
PLACE JUDGE – sits at the end of the pool with place judge from other team and writes down the order the swimmers finish the race.
RUNNER – gathers the time cards from our timers and placement judges. Cards are then taken to the scorekeeper table (usually in the clubhouse).
TIMER – times the swimmer in your lane. You will be given instructions ahead of time on how to use the timer. If you like to be close to the action, this is the job for you!
EVENT BOARD –Changes the event and heat numbers on the screen display. Sits on top area near concessions. Has the best seat in the house.
COMPUTER ENTRY- Enters time results into computer. (In clubhouse)
SCORER- Totals points earned at meet. (In clubhouse)
ANNOUNCER and STARTER: Calls swimmers to the blocks, starts each event, keep event running smoothly and in a timely manner.
CONCESSIONS/GRILL/FOOD PREP – before and/or during home meets, helps with selling or preparing of food items to swimmers and guests.
SET-UP CREW – (Home meets) arrives at the pool at 4:00 the day of the meet to move pool chairs and tables, rope off areas around the pool and prepare the pool area for the meet. The crew also lends a hand to help set up concessions (if needed).
CLEAN-UP CREW – (Home meets) After the meet, the chairs and all pool furniture need to be returned to their original locations. The pool deck needs to be cleared of all litter and the trash taken to the dumpster. Clubhouse needs to be put back in order, vacuumed and trash removed.
